In 1988 I bred our Shih Tzu, Chelsea, to a Champion male and dabbled with showing the puppies a bit at shows in my area. It was a great learning experience, to say the least! While at the shows, I kept noticing how wonderful the poodles were..and having grown up with a fabulous Mini I began to yearn for another. My heart became set upon finding a Standard to show. After talking to
various breeders, I bought my first real showdog, a black Standard I
named Cara Vae Admiral Nimitz. I learned about show grooming a poodle
on this patient boy! He finished his Championship in spite of many grooming
mistakes and the help of a handler, Christi McDonald, whom I worked
for part-time as a helper at the shows and in her kennel. She did a
wonderful job While working for
Christi, I was offered the chance to have a beautiful white Toy bitch
from her. I accepted the offer and she became Ch. Ted-El Hippie Chick
under the guidance of Ms. McDonald. This little white girl was called "Jessica" and she became my constant companion. She was my
start in breeding Toy Poodles. I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity
to Now, years later, I am still working with that pedigree to produce the Toys I have today. It's been a constant learning curve, with the help and guidance of others in the Poodle Fancy. I am indebted to them and will not forget the encouragement they have given to me. My current goal is to concentrate on the very solid Toy Poodle in white, reaching back into some of the older dogs available from the past to preserve the excellent bodies and movement these dogs possessed. At the same time, I am working to produce a pretty face with a nice, small eye. Also, by working with nearly solid white pedigrees, I am hoping to keep the excellent white coats with dark pigments that is so beautiful and correct. |
